Behavior Technician – ABA Therapist – Human Services

As a Behavior Technician, you will utilize highly structured treatment programs developed by a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst that are geared toward the specific client’s needs. You will be responsible for applying principles of behavior analysis to help clients develop skills and verbal behavior while helping reduce socially significant actions, which may include aggressive responses.
After receiving from Child’s Play a structured, 40-hour intensive training, you must become eligible to sit for and pass the Registered Behavior Technician exam within 30 working days. In order to do so, you must be signed off on theRBT Competency Assessment. The assessment is complete when the behavioral technician demonstrates competency in each task as determined by the assessor. Failure to sit for and pass the RBT exam within the appropriate time frame would lead to termination of employment.

As a Behavior Technician you will utilize highly structured treatment programs developed by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst that are geared toward the specific patient’s needs. You will be responsible for applying principles of behavior analysis to help patients develop skills and verbal behavior while helping reduce socially significant actions, which may include aggressive responses.
Behavior technician responsibilities:
- Maintain online training curriculum by assigned due dates
- Pass and maintain Safe Crisis Management (SCM) training
- Pass and maintain First Aid/CPR training
- Providing direct therapy in individual and group sessions
- Following clients’ daily schedule
- Implementing individualized treatment plans as written and directed by BCBA and Program Coordinator
- Completing and recording data acquisition and graph data
- Completing daily and weekly documentation
- Completing training on the client’s behavior plans and demonstrating ability to assist with behaviors (e.g., maladaptive, aggressive, self-injurious, etc.)
- Maintain communication with the client’s parents/guardians, and members of the clinical team
- Following behavior plans and other protocols developed for clients
- Communicate program questions through client’s communication log
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge
- Maintain respect and confidentiality; protecting the wellbeing of all clients
- Participate in group staff training
During the therapy sessions you will work with your client in a variety of settings (i.e., in the client’s room, around the center, in the community, etc.) and provide a wide array of behavioral interventions. You will follow the individualized treatment plan designed by the assigned consultant.
When first assigned to a new case, you will receive a thorough training in order to be able to effectively conduct the individualized program and to work with your new client. You may be asked to fill-in from time to time with additional clients. A thorough training may not be completed in these cases, however the basic principles of ABA that you will have received training on for your primary client will apply.
- Have strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret general information
- Must be flexible, creative and demonstrate strong organizational skills

- Must maintain positive attitude and be willing to provide positive role model for other therapists
- Have basic computer skills for data entry
- Must be able to physically manage children with autism spectrum disorders. (This includes but is not limited to the provision of therapy while on the floor, running after children, actively playing with the children and dealing with aggressive behaviors.)
- Viewing a computer screen or other close work less than 18 inches
- Ability to pass background checks, which includes BMV, County criminal history, Indiana limited State criminal history. National criminal history, pre- employment drug screening and clearance from the State Nurse Aid Registry and the DIG Medicaid fraud registry.
- Willing to participate in staff development activities as assigned
- Willing to observe and follow all agency and departmental philosophies, policies, procedures and the Agency Standards of Conduct and Code of Ethics
- Must have dependable transportation, hold a valid Indiana driver’s license with an insurable driving record and have proof of state required liability insurance on personal vehicle
- Must have a telephone in residence of the ability of a cell phone to be contacted regarding real time staffing information
- Must be willing to travel using personal vehicle and occasionally transport clients
- Must be able to push, pull, bend, stoop, crawl, walk, reach, lift, climb stairs and run without assistance when applicable to the environment
- Must be able to lift from 30 to 50 lbs. when working with children or equipment
